While we were forced to cancel our annual Wine Dinner for 2020, we continue to strategize on what we can do for 2021. Our Wine Dinner Committee, led by Mike Dagata, met throughout the year to discuss and brainstorm new ideas for a virtual event that would be as fun and as special as in past years. We are even keeping our fingers crossed for an in person event once it is safe to do so. There will be much to celebrate in 2021 and we look forward to keeping you posted on “wine news” here with each newsletter.
This month’s Mary Wade Wine News reports on Thomas Matthew’s retirement as Executive Editor of Wine Spectator magazine. Thomas has been the host and Master of Ceremonies for Mary Wade’s annual Wine Dinner since its inception in 2006. Click here to view photos.
Thomas has been an ardent supporter and family member of Mary Wade having had his step father and mother, Rev. Kermit and Susi Morrison, reside and cared for here. In appreciation of the care his parents received, Thomas asked himself what he could do to give back to Mary Wade. Combining his profession expertise in the world for wine and his gratitude to Mary Wade, Thomas offered to host an annual fundraiser which would feature some of the most outstanding vineyards in the world. Combined with the culinary talents of New Haven’s best chefs, Thomas and his wife Sarah invested their time and talents to raise funds to support Mary Wade. Raising more than $500,000 over the last 14 years, we look forward to continuing to work with Thomas this year. Read his retirement announcement here
