  • Ben & Jerry's by Mitchell Wollen and his family

    Residents and staff enjoyed a visit from Ben & Jerry’s ice cream today thanks to the generosity of Mitchell Wollen and his family.  Mitchell is a sophomore at Xavier High School who has started a nonprofit that makes signs in support of healthcare workers.  From the sales of the signs, they donate the proceeds to benefit the staff of local hospitals or nursing homes while at the same time supporting local businesses.  Thanks to Mitchell and his family for sharing the love!  Check out Mitchell’s story here and here.

    What a great day for Mary Wade on Sunday, September 30th.  The weather was perfect, the location couldn’t have been better and the WALKERS--The walkers are truly amazing.

    Funeral services for Cheryl will be Friday, September 28th, DIRECTLY at Sacred Heart Church, 158 Broad St., New Britain, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery following mass. Family and friends may call at the NEWINGTON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 20 Bonair Ave, Newington, on Thursday, September 27, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

  • Coffee Cup Solute

    This morning we're celebrating The Mary Wade Home in New Haven. It began in 1866 to provide a home and job training for young women in need. Today, it provides a continuum of care of our senior community, including adult day care, rehab services, residential care, and skilled nursing. It's expanding its memory care services with a partnership with the Alzheimer's Association of Connecticut. There are 300 employees at the Fair Haven home, making it one of the largest employers in Fair Haven.

    The Mary Wade Annual Wine Dinner, now in its 13th year, has evolved to become one of the more popular events in the New Haven area.

    Thomas Matthews, Executive Editor of Wine Spectator, returns as host again this year. Esprit du Vin Wines will be our 2018 wine sponsor. Together, they will present an exceptional evening of delicious education. Thomas began his love affair with wine as a grape picker in Bordeaux during the harvest of 1979. He has almost 40 years of experience and will present a fascinating tour of selected wines and their characteristics.  

    This year’s dinner will take place on Saturday, April 21 at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale. We look forward to seeing you for this educational and entertaining evening.

    Have you ever had the flu? I was a teenager, living in Paris, the last time I had it, and I spent a week in bed. I also recall that my grandmother was visiting at the same time. 

    Grandmother, or grand-mère in French, was in her mid-sixties and caught the flu while caring for me. She became gravely ill, and it took her much longer than one week to recover.

    WTNH NEWS 8 - At Mary Wade our goal is to strive to provide high quality care and services to the elderly. Within that goal our top priority is the health and safety of every client that we serve. This includes protecting our elderly from all forms of abuse especially financial. Mary Wade has several processes and procedures in place to ensure that our elderly clients are treated fairly financially. One of our services we offer is what we refer to as resident trust. This is run similar to a bank account except the residents do not have to go out to the bank to retrieve the funds they need. Also with a resident trust account our residents can pay bills and order items. Every transaction in a resident trust account must be approved by a resident or an authorized  responsible party
